Rare and fantastic, 1889 Photo Album of 42 outstanding, 8â? x 4 ½â? Photographs of the North Central Pennsylvania area around Renovo, PA and concentrating on what is now the Bucktail State Park Natural Area and the area along the West Branch Susquehanna River taken by a highly talented Amateur Photographer using a larger format camera. This fascinating Snapshot Album measures approx. 10 1/2" x 7 1/2" and is bound in its original black, textured paper wrappers. The Album contains 21 interior, heavy card stock leaves with 42, original, albumen Photographs mounted one to a page (photos are mounted back to back). Each Photograph is identical in format and each measures approx. 8" x 4 1/4". Most all of the images are neatly captioned in manuscript identifying the scene and a list of the titles can be found later in this item description. Of special interest are outstanding images of Railroad Locomotives, a horse drawn Fire Engine, hunting and fishing scenes, an interior view of the Renovo â??Machine Shopâ? and two views of Renovo at the time of the June 1st, 1889 flood. There are also numerous images related to the Philadelphia & Reading Rail Road (P&RRR) and the Cumberland Valley Rail Road (CVRR). These Photographs are of the very highest quality and although we do not believe the Photographer was a professional, he was highly skilled and used a large format camera to take these fantastic images. The Album begins with a â??compositeâ? title page that features a view of the Renovo Reservoir and a small portrait of our unidentified Photographer. The Album is titled â??Leaves of Memoryâ?. The images that follow are a fantastic collection of views in and around the Renovo area. The photographer seems to have a particular attachment to Hammerslyâ??s Island and there are a number of images of this beautiful, wilderness area. On June 1, 1889 the River at Renovo floods its banks covering about half the town and causing heavy damage at the lower end of town. The Sullivan Opera House as well as five homes are swept away. The Album contains 2 outstanding views of Renovo taken on June 1st from across the flooded river. The Photograph of the â??P & E Fire Engine and Companyâ? is simply stunning as is the portrait of the P&R Railroad Engine taken â??Near (the) Renovo Hotelâ?. We have included a large number of scans of the Photographs in this fantastic Album so please be patient while they load. This outstanding, 1889 Photo Album is bound in its original, textured, black paper wrappers which are in very good condition - sound and intact with some edge wear especially at the spine. The interior pages are also in very good condition - complete, tight and clean throughout with waviness to the thick, card stock leaves. All of the Photos are present - none have been removed or altered in any way. The images themselves are in excellent condition throughout - none have physical damage of any kind - the album has preserved them well. All of the images exhibit sharp focus, strong contrast and rich tonality. These images were exposed, developed and printed out with great skill by a talented Photographer whether professional or amateur!!! Overall the photographs in this album are outstanding examples of late 19th century large size Albumen Views and the Album taken as a whole is a fantastic record of this beautiful area of Pennsylvania in 1889. We have NEVER requested Feedback from our customers as we were taught that "fishing for compliments" was impolite but the new eBay Detailed Rating System has put us in a rather tight spot. Most buyers are unaware that eBay bases a monthly fee discount on a Seller's "Star" rating. A monthly average of "4.6 Stars" (in any one of the four "Star" categories) costs us approximately $400 in additional eBay Fees - that's $400 above what we would pay if we had a "4.8 Star" average in all 4 "Star" categories!! As a consequence we hope you do not find us rude to ask that if you are happy with our items, our service, and our packing & shipping please be sure to use the "Star" rating system and remember that a "5 Star" rating is the only way we can qualify for eBay's fee reduction program. , Powered by eBay Turbo Lister The free listing tool.
